String Theory II is Nick Mason's variation of String Theory, one popular real theory about subatomic quantum particles, black holes, string, life, the universe, and everything. Having missed the point of String Theory, Nick put together an alternative version of String Theory about gravity.

According to the real String Theory, everything is made up of things called fundamental particles. Atoms are made up of quarks and electrons, which are types fundamental particles. Antimatter (see the Anti-nuke Theory for an explanation of Antimatter) is made of atoms made of antiquarks and positrons, which are also types of fundamental particles.

These particles are normally shown in diagrams as small balls. However, String Theory says that, when looked at in another dimension (or direction, but a direction that hasn't been discovered yet), these particles look like pieces of string. These pieces of string, called superstring, vibrate in other dimensions. Different types of particles vibrate in different ways, and these vibrations determine what type of particle they are.

(Suppose the universe is a piece of paper. If we lived in the piece of paper, we would only be able to move around the paper, and we would only be able to move left, right, forwards or backwards. We wouldn't realise up existed.

On this piece of paper, everything is made up of dots. To us, on the piece of paper, the dots look like dots. However, the dots are really pieces of string sticking up on the piece of paper. The pieces of string vibrate, and the different vibrations give us different types of dots.)

As if this wasn't complicated enough, String Theory also has lots of other weird stuff about worm holes, all things quantum, the speed of light, and various other intensely complicated and confusing things. I won't bother explaining these, though, firstly because I don't understand them myself, and secondly because it would probably burn out the web servers again just through sheer complexity.

(Some of the BePlaced.com servers have already been burnt out by the previous incarnation of the Anti-Nuke Theory, which is why it took six months longer than I thought it would to find a new web hosting site and put this site on the web. I don't want it to happen again.)

Thankfully, String Theory II is a lot easier to comprehend. According to String Theory II, gravity is caused by long pieces of string that hold everything together. There is one piece of string holding the moon in orbit around the earth, another holding the earth in orbit around the sun, another holding the sun in the Milky Way galaxy, and so on. These pieces of string are super-strong, so they do not break, and they never get tangled up, for some strange reason.

One of the things that make this theory so hard to prove is that the pieces of string are invisible, untouchable, and undetectable by all known and unknown methods of detecting pieces of string. However, the string connecting the earth to the moon has, over millions of years, slipped from the north pole to the equator, and in the process carved a huge trench between them. No-one has noticed this trench yet (except people that fell into the trench, who are unable to tell anyone about it).

The string never gets tangled up, for three reasons. Firstly, if the pieces of string touch each other, they just pass through each other, instead of tangling up. Secondly, there is a huge hand in the sky which untangles everything. The third reason is that everything just happens to be in the right place at the right time.

String Theory 2 has a large part in the Giant Magnets theory of Earth Rotation. Click here to find out more.
